Curriculum

The primary mission of the school is upbringing and education, implemented through curricula and programs defined by the legal regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Bureau for Development of Education of the Republic of North Macedonia, while also retaining the right to use its own program.

Our vision is to create an institution with a professional teaching staff, recognized for its clear standards and guiding principles, aiming for high quality, responsibility, and respect for ethnic and other human values.

The Private Secondary School “MAARIF INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS” provides students with a four-year general gymnasium education. The designated subject areas and courses offer a strong foundation for academic development and integration into university-level education, both in the Republic of North Macedonia and internationally.

The planning and implementation of the educational process are conducted in accordance with the legal provisions and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) and the Bureau for Development of Education (BDE) of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The curriculum structure for the gymnasium education at the Private Secondary School “MAARIF INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS”, mirrors the curriculum structure of public gymnasium schools in North Macedonia. The curriculum is organized into three main components:

- Compulsory subject

- Elective subjects / Mandatory elective programs

- Project-based activities

Compulsory subjects form the core of gymnasium education and apply to all students. These subjects provide a general education standard that enables students to progress within all areas of the gymnasium system.

Elective subjects are grouped into two areas:

  • Natural sciences and mathematics – A and B streams.
These areas provide content that facilitates student access to university studies within the Republic of North Macedonia. The subjects stimulate creativity and enrich students’ knowledge.

Mandatory elective programs allow students to explore their interests in fields such as sports, visual and musical arts. These programs have the status of academic subjects and are implemented through weekly lessons using a variety of teaching methods. A key feature of these programs is the mentoring system and the use of flexible didactic approaches. Each activity is implemented in a unique and original way, allowing students to express their talents and be motivated to achieve success in sports and the arts.

Project-based activities cater to students’ individual interests by offering opportunities to express creativity and potential beyond regular classes. These are conducted according to the standards set by the BDE and within an appropriate number of hours across all four school years. Students freely choose two of the offered project activities, which in our school are known as student clubs.
