What Does the School Counselor Do?
The school counselor supports students, parents, teachers, administration, and the wider community through a wide range of services, including:
• Student Support: Academic guidance, individual and group counseling, peer mediation, transition assistance, and prevention programs (bullying, drug abuse, suicide).
• Parent Support: Family counseling, parent-child communication guidance, support during transitions, and referrals to mental health or academic services.
• Teacher Support: Classroom observations, behavior management strategies, student interventions, and support during parent-teacher conferences.
• Schoolwide Support: Needs assessments, student advocacy, crisis management, staff training, and programs promoting a safe, positive school climate.
